We are more than just a student letting agent. We want to make sure you have the best experience in your new student home. so we'll be
there to guide you and advise you on what to do (and what not to do) to make the process go smoothly. Check out our top 10 tips for
student living below:
Top 10 tips
- Choose your housemates wisely - remember you are going to be living with them for at least a year so make sure you know
each other well and more importantly that you get on!
- Budget correctly - don't take on more than you can afford! A flashy house with all the mod-cons might seem appealing at the
beginning but you have to be realistic about what you can afford
- Plan your location - and how you're going to get to uni! Think about bus routes and parking. We can advise you on where the
best locations are.
- Know what's expected of you - when you sign a tenancy agreement for a property you are legally bound by the terms and
conditions so make sure you have read and understood them properly
- Pay your rent on time - falling into rent arrears is something you must avoid as it could count against you when you rent in the
future. Speak to your parents if you are struggling and make sure you that you are prioritising how you spend your money.
- Keep your house tidy - landlords and agents will do regular property inspections so make sure you are keeping on top of your
housework and reporting damages as soon as they happen.
- Don't forget to pay your utilities - remember it's your responsibility to pay for your electricity, gas, water, TV license and internet if
applicable - set up a payment plan and make sure you are switching off lights and saving energy where you can!
- Keep safe - don't leave hair straighteners, irons or other electrical items plugged in, candles lit, or doors unlocked when you go
out. Be aware of hazards and fire safety and report anything that concerns you straight away.
- Remember what you are here for - get your studying done! Okay so we are not your parents, but we want you to do well in
your studies and achieve what you have set out to do so make sure you find the time (and energy) to get your work done!
- Enjoy yourself - this is probably one of the most exciting stages of your life so relax and enjoy your independence and the rest will slot into place.
