     Lichfield Knights return victorious

               from Castle Gresley

Lichfield Round Table produced a fantastic performance at their most recent game, to beat Gresley Rovers in a thrilling game at Castle Gresley Rec.

Strikers Connor McLoughlin,Keiran Rowley and Sam Joyce scored three breath taking goals for the away side to take them to victory and secure their position in top spot.

Like true Knights of the Round Table, the U13’s team played with courage, honor, dignity, courtesy, and nobleness. They protected ladies and damsels (the mums supporting in the crowd), honoured and fought for kings (or at least their Manager and coach) and undertook this quest with determination. Last season’s encounters with Gresley had left the lads battle scarred, but those dents were distant memories as the final whistle blew.

The more relaxed second-half was in stark contrast to the tense and tight first, which ended with LRT 1-0 up.

The Round Table team were clearly up for the challenge from the beginning, out-battling their opponents and playing some attractive football. The majority of play was confined to the Gresley half as the home team were limited to long ball tactics thanks to the excellent defending by Heanan, Burden & co at the back and the omnipresent Sam Perry, Kieran Parish & Co in Midfield. On 16 minutes they went ahead through a well placed shot from McLoughlin.

LRT came out firing in the second-half and scored two goals in just seven minutes from Rowley and Joyceto effectively put the game past the home side.

This victory now places the team3 points clear at the top with a game in hand, agoal difference of +116 and with 6 games left?.

The Burchell Edwards Man of the Match Award went to Bailey Heanan, for his outstanding performance at the back and this was a difficult decision to make as all boys were a credit to football. A local Derby County scout was heard to say that “It was the best game of football at this age level he had seen all season”.
